プエラリア（Pueraria mirifica）は、タイ北部やミャンマーの山岳地帯など、亜熱帯地域の落葉樹林に自生するマメ科クズ属の植物です。女性ホルモンに似た作用を持つ植物性エストロゲン・イソフラボンが大豆のほぼ40倍含まれています。
ミャンマーのかつての首都・ブーカムにある仏塔の下から見つかった古文書の中には、高齢の女性がプエラリア・ミリフィカを食し、美しさと健康をいつまでも保っていたという趣旨の内容が記載されており、古くから、美しさと美の伝承食として用いられてきました。

1960年、イギリスの学術雑誌『Nature』において“プエラリア・ミリフィカには「プエラリン」という美乳効果をもつ成分が多く含まれる”との趣旨が発表され、世界的に注目されるようになりました。また、エストロゲンを活性化するミロエステロールやデオキシミロエステロールが含まれ、女性の美肌作用などに効果が期待できるとされています。

Pueraria mirifica is a native-grown root that belongs to genus pueraria in the pea family found in deciduous forests in the subtropical area, such as the northern region of Thailand and the mountainous region of Myanmar. It contains about 40 times more isoflavones, which are phytoestrogens that are similar in effect to a female hormone (estrogen), than soybeans.
According to an old document found under a pagoda in Bouwkamp, the ancient capital of Myammer, older women in those days ate pueraria mirificas and successfully maintained their beauty and health - this indicates that the plant has been supporting women’s beauty through the ages.

In 1960, Britain’s scientific journal “Nature” published an article that mentioned that pueraria mirifica contains a large amount of puerarin, which has the effect of breast argumentation, and this caught the world’s attention.
Pueraria mirifica is also known to contain miroestrol and deoxymiroesterol that promote the activity of estrogen, and it is expected that it can be used to make women’s skin beautiful. |
